Topic - The Gift of Interpretation of Tongues.

Opening Prayer: God we thank you for this week and for our lives and all you have done for us. May your name be highly glorified, God we are studying your word today please let it be a lamp unto our feet and a light to our path in Jesus name. Amen

Key Passage- “to another the working of miracles; to another prophecy; to another discerning of spirits; to another divers kinds of tongues; to another the interpretation of tongues:”

‭‭1 Corinthians‬ ‭12‬:‭10‬ ‭KJV

WHAT IS THE GIFT OF INTERPRETATION  OF TONGUES

In simple terms Interpretation of tongues is a gift of the Holy Spirit that conveys the message spoken in tongues to the understanding of the receiver(church).

It can also be described as a gift from the Holy Spirit to communicate an unknown language to a known language (the recipient of the message needs to understand this language)

Sometimes the same person has the ability to interpret from unknown to known and in other cases can be two different individuals in the same gathering. This gift goes hand in hand with the gifts of tongues and is very dependent on it as the words literally say “interpretation of tongues “ so a tongue(s) must precede before an interpretation is done according to: ‭‭1 Corinthians‬ ‭14‬:‭27 ‭KJV‬‬ - ““If any man speak in an unknown tongue, let it be by two, or at the most by three, and that by course; and let one interpret.”

This ushers me into the importance of this gift- as humans and as a church we sometimes run on our intellect a lot but this dethrones human intellect as God operates on a higher level(Proverbs 2:3-5).

Sometimes this could easily be mixed up with prophecy and confused with translation but we would not dive deep into that as that is a whole study on its own but I would just throw a little light on it

Fun Fact- it is possible to have the gift of interpretation of tongues without actually speaking it and to those who desire this gift of the Holy Spirit, some may have it and not realise it but we are encouraged in the book of 1 Corinthians 14 to yearn for both gifts.

That brings me to our question for the day - To those who yearn for the gift of the Holy Spirit, is it possible to have it and not realise you have it? What activates it?

Above all let us remember these gifts are for the edification of the church ‭‭according to 1 Corinthians‬ ‭14‬:‭26‬ ‭NLT‬‬ “Well, my brothers and sisters, let’s summarize. When you meet together, one will sing, another will teach, another will tell some special revelation God has given, one will speak in tongues, and another will interpret what is said. But everything that is done must strengthen all of you.”

Thank you God for your word today. As we leave this study, let Your Word remain in our hearts. Help us to apply what we have learned, to continue seeking You diligently, and to be bold witnesses for Your Kingdom.
